Hong Kong · Online business accounts

A business account for your Hong Kong company, opened online.

Most companies we form open their first account with a fintech provider rather than a traditional bank: online, usually within days, with no branch visit. These are the three providers our clients use most, what each is good at, and how to apply.

Our partners

Three providers, three different strengths.

You apply directly to the provider, and the provider decides. Pick the one that matches how money comes into your business; plenty of clients hold two.

Airwallex

A multi-currency business account with local account details in major currencies, foreign exchange, company cards and online payment tools. It can pull your company’s details from the Companies Registry, which speeds up onboarding.

Suits: companies that invoice clients or pay suppliers in several currencies, such as agencies, consultancies and software businesses.

Payoneer

Built for getting paid across borders: receive payouts from marketplaces and freelance platforms and payments from clients abroad, hold several currencies, and withdraw to a local account.

Suits: freelancers and digital nomads paid through platforms, and anyone whose income arrives from overseas clients.

PingPong

Cross-border collections for online sellers: receive marketplace payouts in several currencies, convert them, and pay suppliers from the same account.

Suits: e-commerce sellers on marketplaces and online stores who collect abroad and pay suppliers.

We may receive a commission from a provider if you open an account through these links. It costs you nothing and does not change what we recommend. Each provider sets its own fees, eligibility rules and supported countries; check them on the provider’s site before you apply.

How it works

From new company to working account.

  1. Form the company. Incorporation usually takes a few business days once your documents pass our checks.
  2. Download your documents. Certificate of incorporation, Business Registration Certificate, articles and registers land in your client portal as they are issued.
  3. Apply through the link. Answer the provider’s questions about what the company does, who owns it and where its customers are, and upload the documents.
  4. The provider verifies and decides. A simple company with complete paperwork is often approved within days.

What helps an application go through

  • Simple ownership. Individuals holding shares directly. A corporate shareholder or an extra holding layer can rule out online onboarding.
  • A clear description. Say plainly what the company sells, to whom and in which countries.
  • Matching documents. Names and addresses on your ID and proof of address should match what is on the company record.
  • A real online presence. A website or professional profile that matches the business you describe.

FAQ

Questions people ask about business accounts.

Do you open the account for me?

No. You apply directly to the provider through the link on this page, and the provider makes its own decision. We have no influence over the outcome and no role in running the account. What we do is make sure you have every company document they ask for, ready to download from your client portal.

What documents will the provider ask for?

Usually the certificate of incorporation, the Business Registration Certificate, the articles of association and the company registers, plus a passport and proof of address for each director and beneficial owner. They will also ask what the company does and where its customers and suppliers are. Everything that comes from us is in your portal as soon as it is issued.

Is a fintech account the same as a bank account?

Not quite. These providers are payment and multi-currency account platforms rather than traditional banks. For most small Hong Kong companies they handle what matters day to day: receiving money from clients and platforms, holding several currencies, and paying suppliers and staff. Some large clients, tenders and government bodies still expect a traditional bank account; if that applies to you, our advisory practice 818HI can advise.

Can I open more than one?

Yes. Many clients hold two, for example one account for invoicing clients and another for marketplace or platform payouts. Each provider assesses you separately.

Does using your link cost me anything?

No. You pay exactly what you would pay by signing up on the provider's own website. We may receive a commission from the provider if you open an account through our link; it does not change what we recommend.

Do I need to qualify for your published prices to use these links?

No. The links are open to anyone with a company, whether or not we act for it.

Will my bookkeeping connect to the account?

Yes, if you use Certanta, our bookkeeping partner. Its ledger reads transactions from fintech accounts, so your books stay current without statement uploads.
